PS4 Games with Free or Conditional Upgrades for the PS5

Sony is working hard with game publishers to bring immediate value to your PlayStation 5 purchase, if you were lucky enough to get a preorder. Some of your recent PS4 game purchases may get a free upgrade to the PS5 versions. While several other titles can get an upgrade when you purchase select editions of the PS4 game. There are 2 main catches for you to keep in mind when upgrading your games. The first one is that if you have PS4 disc copy of a game that is on the free upgrade list you will have to use that disc for the upgrade. This means if you purchased the Digital Edition of the PS5 console you can only transfer Digital editions of games on the free upgrade list from your PS4. The second catch is that not all games will transfer save information from the PS4 to the PS5 version. So, you may want to check if your game files will transfer before pumping hundreds of hours into the PS4 edition. The save data transfer issue is only for those games you are upgrading to the PS5 edition, if you are playing a PS4 game on your PS5 the save data will transfer.

Your PS5 purchase is a serious investment and Sony is giving you plenty of entertainment available to you when it comes out. There are likely to be more games added to both lists by the time the PS5 is finally launched so that you will have plenty of PS5 titles available to choose from. Also, if you were not lucky enough to get one of those elusive preorders, you can buy and play the games from the above lists on your current PS4 without worrying about paying for them twice when you finally secure your PS5.
