The Resident Evil Showcase finally occurred, and it disclosed several key things for Resident Evil fans. There were multiple Resident Evil Village reveals: the release date, two new trailers including one gameplay, a demo, and more. The showcase also honored the 25th anniversary of the Capcom franchise with collectables in Tom Clancy’s The Division 2 and a special multiplayer game called RE:Verse. Finally, a Netflix movie named Resident Evil Infinite Darkness is set for release sometime in 2021. All of these have The Load Screen excited for what is to come in the growing world of Resident Evil.

The biggest star of the showcase was Resident Evil Village with 2 brand new trailers, including one that was actual gameplay. Although originally announced for next gen-systems only, fans of the franchise with last-gen consoles will be included since the game will now come to both PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. The release date for the game was set for May 7, 2021, with pre-orders starting now. A playable demo called Maiden is available on the PlayStation 5, and will be on other platforms eventually. The demo shows off the rich world of Resident Evil Village through the eyes of one of its victims, as she meets her gruesome fate in Castle Dimitrescu. Check out the Resident Evil Village website for more information.

Anyone who purchases Resident Evil Village will receive the additional game called RE:Verse. This is a standalone multiplayer PVP title designed to celebrate the 25th anniversary of Resident Evil. Fight online against others in familiar levels including the Raccoon City Police Station featured prominently in several Resident Evil games. Players will be able to select a huge list of characters from the entire franchise, such as Nemesis, Chris Redfield, and even Jack Baker the father from Resident Evil 7. The title will feature a comic book style graphics to match the intense gameplay and is available for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC. Learn more about the game and its closed beta test on the RE:Verse website.

Besides just the direct Resident Evil video game updates, there were a few other topics covered. A Netflix animated movie will be released this year called Resident Evil Infinite Darkness, which follows Claire and Leon a few years after Resident 4 takes place. The other major announcement was the teams at Ubisoft and Massive Entertainment will join in on the anniversary celebration. For a limited time in Tom Clancy’s The Division 2 players receive Chris Redfield’s Raccoon City Police uniform, as well as many other Resident Evil collectables. The uniform is free from February 2 to February 15 according to the Resident Evil Showcase video.

The Resident Evil Showcase explained the franchise roadmap for this year well. Resident Evil Village will be released on May 7th, and RE:Verse might as well. It now has two more trailers for Village with one showing off gameplay. There is a playable demo for the main title available on PlayStation 5 called Maiden, with more console versions coming later. The Load Screen team looks forward to playing the demo and both games later this year. An additional note for longtime Resident Evil fans: the portal pages for several of the games are finally being unified. See the Resident Evil Portal official announcement for more information.
