Fans of the upcoming Resident Evil Village can breathe a little, after Capcom’s Resident Evil Showcase. The event kicked off the playable demo for the game as well as several other updates on other projects such as the live-action Resident Evil reboot and anime. The Load Screen focuses on the specifics for Village, since this what we are most excited for and there was a lot to unwrap, even in the latest trailer that debuted during the stream.

The biggest news is that the playable demo for Village coming to all systems including Steam, Stadia, and current-gen consoles. There are several limitations set on the demo from the developers. Players get only an hour of game time for exploration. However, almost the entire map is available to scour through since both The Castle and The Village are playable. From the description, the gamer will have the option to select which zone they adventure through. The demo is only available for 24 hours in all markets. The showcase stated the North American market from May 1st to May 2nd, while Europe and Asia get it from May 2nd to May 3rd. The times are specific so check out the Resident Evil Village gameplay demo page for any updates or changes. That page also notes two additional demo days available earlier in April to PlayStation 4 and 5 users, however, those “8 Hours in Village” events only offer the gamer one section per day with 30 minutes of playtime for exploration.

While the demo news was electrifying, the announcement of the return of Mercenaries game mode has the interest of The Load Screen. Capcom promises a bunch of changes to the familiar game addition, including the ability to progress weapons and purchase upgrades. This was a fun way to extend the gameplay of Resident Evil 3-6, so it is nice to see its return. Resident Evil 7 had some random map DLC content available, but nothing similar to Mercenaries. In the past, other characters from throughout the franchise were unlockable in this mode. With the inclusion of RE:Verse in Resident Evil Village, Mercenaries mode may limit itself to characters from Village. Luckily, the developers have created the Mercenaries page dedicated to the game mode that will contain further updates as the title gets closer to launch.

The new trailer for Resident Evil Village that was unveiled during the showcase gave the most in-depth look into the gear and gameplay. The sniper rifle shows back up in the player’s arsenal, as well as the range of normal Resident Evil weapons and pickups. Chris Redfield’s role in the game is revealed more in the latest trailer as well as that of the surviving villagers. Of course, Lady Dimitrescu makes an appearance, and this time we get more of her demanding voice.

The showcase also contained updates on the video production side of Resident Evil, but The Load Screen is enthusiastic about the stuff gamers can get their hands on directly. While the demo news was expected, the update on Mercenaries modes getting added was a real treat. I know once the campaign of Village is completed, I will spend hours gleefully playing through Mercenaries to contend for top scores.
