Xbox Smart Delivery

Microsoft is offering loyal fans value through Xbox Smart Delivery when they finally upgrade to the new Xbox Series X/S. In fact, Smart Delivery adds value for those who chose to wait to upgrade to the Series X/S, because the list of games and publishers that utilize Smart Delivery continues to grow. Smart Delivery means that a game not only has been optimized for the Series X/S, but that those who buy and play the game on the Xbox One can upgrade and play them on the Series X/S. Some games and developers have both an Xbox One version and Series X/S, called Dual-Gen by Microsoft, and may have ways for you to upgrade them to the Series X/S by purchasing special editions or through other services.

There are currently more than 100* Smart Delivery titles that require no additional steps for upgrading to the Series X/S versions, other than owning the new console and having an active Xbox Live account for downloading. Smart Delivery will recognize when you play on the new Series X/S and give you the optimized version of the game to play. If you move your old Xbox One to a different room, Smart Delivery games will recognize that system too and allow you to play the Xbox One version there. Xbox Dual-Gen

Some games are marked by Microsoft as being Dual-Gen, which means that the developer has made an Xbox Series X/S version and an Xbox One version that are not Smart Delivery enabled. There are currently five games that are Dual-Gen, and we will list each one and the ways that you can get an upgrade to the Series X/S optimized versions of the games. Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War is one such game, and to get the upgraded version you will have to buy either the Cross-Gen Bundle or Ultimate Edition. Otherwise, you can enjoy the Xbox One version on your Series X/S according to Call of Duty Black Ops Cold War Ordering page.

The Second Dual-Gen title listed is Control Ultimate Edition but you will get the Series X/S optimized version when it is released without additional purchase according to Control Ultimate Edition’s website. Titles three and four are FIFA 21 and Madden NFL 21, but they are both offered through a similar system to Smart Delivery called Dual Entitlement. It is a service by EA that will give you access to the Series X/S optimized version on their release, you can learn more about the program on EA’s Dual Entitlement page. The last title on the list is NBA 2K21, which has the upgrade available in the Mamba Forever Edition or you can wait and buy the Series X/S optimized version separately on the Xbox NBA 2K21 website.
